specialized agency of the United Nations and was created on 7 December 1944, with the signing of the Convention of International Civil Aviation in Chicago.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the ICAO Objectives?<\/h3>\n\n<p>ICAO is the permanent body responsible for administering the principles set out in the Convention. Headquartered in Montreal, ICAO sets standards for aviation safety, security, efficiency and integrity, as well as aviation environmental protection. <\/p>\n\n<p>ICAO&#8217;s membership includes 190 Contracting States. The aims and objectives of ICAO, as set out in Article 44 of the Chicago Convention, are to develop the principles and techniques of international air traffic and to promote the planning and development of international air transportation in order to: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To ensure the safe and orderly growth of international civil aviation around the world<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to promote the arts and study of aircraft design for peaceful purposes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to encourage the development of airlines, airports and air navigation facilities for international civil aviation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To meet the needs of the world&#8217;s people for safe, smooth, efficient and economical air transportation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to prevent economic waste caused by meaningless competition<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To ensure that the rights of Contracting States are fully respected and that each Contracting State has a fair opportunity to operate international airlines.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoiding discrimination among States Parties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to increase flight safety in international air traffic; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to promote the development of all aspects of international civil aviation in general.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>One of the main tasks of the ICAO Council is to adopt International Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and incorporate them into the Annexes to the Convention on International Civil Aviation.
