About This Item
Remediation of a Fractured Clay Till Using Air Flushing: Field Experiments at Sarnia, Ontario This study was conducted over a three - year period at a well - characterized test site located in Canad a near Sarnia, Ontario. A synthetic gasoline blend of known mass, volume, and compositi on was released into a test cell. Samples were collected and analyzed for gasoline range organics to establish the three - dimensional distribution of th e release. Conventional air flushing technologies, soil vapor extract ion and in - situ air sparging, were able to remove ~40 % of the spilled mass during the initial two months of operation. Following active remediat ion, primarily low - volatility compounds remained in the soil and almost no benzene or toluene remained. Based on mass balance data, a significant portion of the benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xyle ne compounds was biodegraded
