What Does MSS Stand For?
Manufacturers Standardization Society of the Valve and Fittings Industry (MSS)
What are MSS Standards?
The Manufacturers Standardization Society of the Valve and Fittings Industry (MSS) publishes international codes and standards to ensure interoperability, compatibility, and operation of process piping systems. MSS standards address process piping requirements in the petroleum, petrochemical, food, beverage, and service industries for products such as valves, pipe fittings, flanges, and gaskets.
Originally established in 1924, the Manufacturers Standardization Society (MSS) of the Valve and Fittings Industry is a not-for-profit technical organization established to advance the industry and develop national and international codes and standards for valves, valve actuators, pipe fittings, valve modifications, flanges, pipe hangers and related supports.
The primary purpose of the MSS is to provide its members with means to improve engineering standard practices for the benefit of industry and users of industrial products. The only organization dedicated solely to the technical needs of industry, the association currently consists of 26 technical committees that develop and maintain standards that govern the way flow is controlled.
MSS valve and fitting standards are used worldwide in a variety of facilities, including nuclear power plants, and in nearly every industry from wastewater to oil refining. These standards are used in the design and maintenance of process piping in the petroleum, petrochemical, food, beverage and utilities industries.
