About This Item

This SAE Standard specifies requirements for the processing of iron and steel (excluding corrosion resisting steels) to produce coatings consisting essentially of inorganic phosphates, which are intended to be used in conjunction with supplementary finishes for the protection of the basis metal against corrosion (and in certain cases to give, additionally, anti-wear properties to sliding surfaces). This Standard is a direct replacement for DEF STAN 03-11 and has been reproduced by SAE International under the Open Government Licensing Agreement. The technical content remains unchanged from Issue 5 of the Defence Standard it supersedes. Any queries should be referred via the link shown in the feedback box at the bottom of this page.
