SAE AMS4928X

This specification covers a titanium alloy in the form of bars, wire, forgings, flash-welded rings, and drawn shapes up through 10.000 inches (254.00 mm), inclusive, in diameter or least distance between parallel sides and stock of any size for forgings or flash-welded rings. Bar over 6.000 inches (152.40 mm) in nominal thickness has a maximum cross-sectional area of 288 square inches (1858 cm2). Forgings and flash-welded rings with nominal thicknesses over 6.000 inches (152.40 mm) have a maximum cross-sectional area of 79 square inches (509 cm2) (see 8.6). AMS4928X results from a Five-Year Review and update of this specification with changes to add vacuum arc skull melting to the initial melting practices and require reporting of usage in Melting Practice and Reporting (see 3.2, 3.2.3, and 4.4.1), update language related to unauthorized exceptions (see 3.5.1.1.5, 3.9, 4.4.3, and 8.5) and lot definition (see 4.3), add cross-sectional area limitations based on available data (see 1.1 and 3.5.1), remove non-essential note (see Table 2), relocate Definitions (see 2.3), update Applicable Documents (see Section 2), Condition for Bars (see 3.3.1), and Ordering Information (see 8.6), and allow the use of the immediate prior specification revision with restriction related to vacuum arc skull melting (see 8.4).
