This specification covers a corrosion- and heat-resistant steel in the form of sheet and strip from 0.0005 to 0.1874 inch (0.013 to 4.760 mm) in thickness. AMS5548R is the result of a Five-Year Review and update of the specification. The revision establishes size limits and prohibits exceptions to those sizes (1.1, 3.4.4, 3.7, 4.4.2, 5.1.1, 8.5, 8.6), updates composition and reporting (3.1, 3.1.1), adds heat treatment requirements, 3.3, 3.3.1, 3.3.2), adds elongation option (Tables 2 and 3), adds strain rate control 3.4.1.1.1, 3.4.2.3), adds magnification (3.4.1.3), removes superficial hardness (3.4.1.2), adds country of origin (4.4.1), and allows prior revisions (8.4).
