This specification covers a premium aircraft-quality, corrosion-resistant steel in the form of bars, wire, forgings, mechanical tubing, flash-welded rings up to 8.0 inches (203 mm) in diameter or least distance between parallel sides in the solution heat-treated condition (see 8.4), and stock of any size for forging, flash-welded rings, or heading. AMS5622H is the result of a Five-Year Review and update of the specification. The revision updates the Title to include product quality, form and trade name (see 8.9), revises composition testing and reporting (see 3.1 and 3.1.1), provides current heat-treatment specification (see 3.4), clarifies macrostructure sampling (see 3.5.1.1 and 8.10), updates strain rate requirements (see 3.5.2.2.1.1), removes sampling requirements as redundant with AMS2374 (see 3.5.2.2.1.2 and 3.5.2.2.1.3), adds bar finish requirements and guidance (see 3.6.2 and 8.6), adds type to reporting and ordering information (see 4.4.3 and 8.10), updates exception requirements (see 4.4.6 and 8.8), adds forging stock properties to reporting and ordering information (see 4.4.6 and 8.10), and adds finish as an ordering option (see 8.10).
