This specification covers an aircraft-quality, low-alloy steel in the form of bars, forgings, mechanical tubing, and forging stock. AMS6422M is the result of a Five-Year Review and update of the specification. The revision updates the Title to include product quality, align with the Scope, and include the trade name (see 8.8), adds grain size measurement exceptions based on composition (see 3.1.1, 3.3.2, 4.2.2, 4.4.1, and 8.5), provides for reporting additional elements (see 3.1.2), adds finish requirements (see 3.2.1.2), updates macrostructure (see 3.3.1 and 8.10), revises decarburization testing (see 3.3.4.5), incorporates changes in AMS2301 (see 4.2.1 and 4.4.5), clarifies requirements for bar (see 4.4.2), updates exception requirements (see 4.4.4), and provides information on stock removal (see 8.7).
