This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) provides general requirements for a generic “passive” side stick that could be used for fly by wire transport and business aircraft. It addresses the following: The functions to be implemented The geometric and mechanical characteristics The mechanical and electrical interfaces The safety and certification requirements More and more commercial transport, military transport and business aircraft are using fly by wire systems controlled from position or deflection side sticks. This ARP is intended to serve the need to have general requirements available for a generic “passive” side stick unit, i.e. without a back drive or active feel force mechanism, that are applicable to these aircraft.
