About This Item

This AS provides suitable test methods for measuring the dynamic coefficient of friction ("slip resistance" or "sliding friction") of aircraft flooring and walkway surfaces in accordance with 14 CFR and EASA CS 25.793 and 25.810(c). § 25.793 specifies the areas which are likely to become wet in service must have slip-resistant properties, and § 25.810 specifies an escape route must be established from each overwing emergency exit that is covered with a slip-resistant surface. FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 25-17A identifies that Military Specification MIL-W-5044C (or MIL-W-5044B), titled "Walkway Compound, Nonslip and Walkway Matting, Nonslip,” provides an acceptable test method for measuring dynamic coefficient of friction of floor and walkway surfaces. However, this Military Specification was cancelled in 1998 and is no longer maintained. This Aerospace Standard provides a current source for an equivalent test method for demonstrating the slip-resistant properties of flooring and walkway surfaces.
