About This Item

This SAE Information Report is intended to provide design guidance in the selection of steel tubing and related tube fittings for general hydraulic system applications. The information presented herein is based on tubing products which conform to SAE and ISO standards listed in the reference section. This SAE Information Report has been revised as part of the SAE five-year review process. This document continues to recommend metric tubing for new designs. Despite the end of the five-year retention period, The Barlow Formula, The Boardman Formula and The Lame Formula included in Appendix A have been retained per a consensus of opinion that these formulas are still commonly used in the industry. All pressure rating data found in the charts included in this document were calculated per the formula found in ISO 10763 and the main body of this document. Please note the changes as follows: a Updated Applicable Documents and Related Publications lists b Revised formula presentation
