About This Item

This SAE Standard covers low voltage battery cable intended for use at a nominal system voltage of 60 VDC (25 VAC) or less in surface vehicle electrical systems. The tests are intended to qualify cables for normal applications with limited exposure to fluids and physical abuse. The standard has been updated with the following changes: Updated 2.1.1 and 2.2.3. Added 3.1 and updated 3.3 and 3.15. Expanded 4.1. Deleted the reference to thick wall in Table 1A. Updated 4.2. Expanded Section 5 to include long-term heat aging test and crosslinking test. Updated references to appendix. Revised 6.2 language to read easier. Expanded 6.3 to include new cable types and temperature classes. Added 6.4 test method and requirements. Revised 6.5 and 6.7 language to read easier. Updated references to figures; included all cable types and relocated after methods. Added reference to equation. Revised 6.13 to read easier. Added 6.14 method and requirements along with Figures 5, 6, and 7. Removed Appendix C.
