About This Item

This SAE Recommended Practice provides test procedures, requirements, and guidelines for rear fog lamp systems. The following updates were made during the Five-Year Review of this SAE Recommended Practice: Section 2.1.1 SAE Publications updated to reflect new title for SAE J578. SAE J1889 moved to 2.1.1 from 2.2.1, and SAE J1889 inserted as new requirement in 5.1.5.2. Section 2.1.2 title updated to “United Nations Publications” from “ECE Publication.” SAE J567 moved to 2.2.1 from 2.1.1, and SAE J387 added to 2.2.1. UN Regulation 148 added to the Foreword and 2.1.2 United Nations Publications. Section 3.3 title revised to LIGHT EMITTING DIODE (LED) was L.E.D. Section 5.3 added to clarify materials test SAE J576 is part of this report. Figure 1 revised by replacing arrows with dots to clarify the extents of H-Line A and V-Line B, and the associated footnote 2 revised to “… along entire lengths between end points of H-Line A and V-Line B…” Previous 7.1.3 combined into 7.2, subsequent sections renumbered. Section 7.2 reworded to align more closely with the electrical connection requirements stated in UN Regulation 48.
