About This Item

SAE J1698-1A creates an appendix to SAE J1698-1. The appendix contains EDR Record parameters and definitions related to light duty passenger vehicle pedestrian protection systems. In many instances where original equipment manufacturers install pedestrian protection systems, those systems may contain event data recording functionality. Pedestrian protection systems can be standalone systems, separate from other systems that may perform an EDR function associated with a rollover or planar crash, or they may be incorporated into another module which already had an EDR function associated with it. To accommodate the differences and challenges a pedestrian protection system poses from an EDR standpoint, the SAE International created this recommended practice. SAE J1698-1A is created as an appendix to provide standalone recommended practices for pedestrian protection EDR Records, regardless of in which module they are stored.
