This SAE Standard provides test procedures, requirements, and guidelines for clearance, sidemarker, and identification lamps intended for use on vehicles 2032 mm or more in overall width. A clearance lamp, sidemarker lamp, or an identification lamp conforming to the requirements of this document may be used on vehicles less than 2032 mm in overall width. This document was revised to incorporate changes to the new more user-friendly photometry format balloted and approved in June 2006. There are no photometry requirements changes to this document. The current Table 1—Photometric Performance Requirements (red & yellow) is replaced with the new format Figure 1 (red) Photometric Requirements and Figure 2 (yellow) Photometric Requirements. Changed language in the scope in second sentence “side marker lamps” to “side marker lamp” to be consistent with other document text. Corrected reference to “The Maintenance Council” to Technology and Maintenance Council”. Corrected Reference to Federal Highway Administration to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. References to Table 1 will be replaced with “Figure 1 (red) or Figure 2 (yellow)” in paragraphs 6.1.5 and 6.5.5. Added additional combination options in Section 6 (Sections 6.4.3 and 6.4.4, bumped number sequence for the rest. Changed the wording in Section 6.5.2 from “trailers” to “vehicles” to be more consistent with other document text. Added Design guideline 7.1.3 for mounting of auxiliary lamps near identification lamps.
