This SAE standard applies to horizontal earthboring machines (SAE J2022) of the following types: a Auger boring machines; b Rod pushers; c Rotary rod machines; d Impact machines. This document does not apply to specialized horizontal directional drills, mining machines, conveyors, tunnel boring machines, pipe jacking systems, micro tunnelers, or well drilling machines. This document has been updated to remove horizontal directional drills from the scope of the standard due to the release of EN 16228:1 and EN 16228:3 that specifically cover these types of machines.
