NEMA is the preferred trade association for the electrical manufacturing industry. Founded in 1926 and headquartered near Washington, D.C., its approximately 450 member companies manufacture products used in the generation, transmission and distribution, control, and end use of electricity. These products are used in utility, medical imaging, industrial, commercial, institutional, and residential applications.
It carries all NEMA standards pertaining to the rating, test performance, manufacture, and applications of a wide variety of electrical equipment: controls for electric water heaters; oil burner controls; electric baseboard heaters; pipe and cable; high-voltage insulators; industrial storage batteries; high-voltage fuses; power switch gear assemblies; electrical connectors; washer head bolts and nuts; plastic tree guards; pin and sleeve plugs, receptacles, and connectors manual; smoke detectors; coaxial communications cable; X-ray tubes; and installation procedures.
